Metallurgical Plant Manufacturing

Metallurgical plants
The mood amongst metallurgical plant and rolling mill manufacturers has brightened somewhat in 2017. In parallel with the favorable trend in the global economy, the sector profited from higher production and increasing investments in the steel industry.

Power stations

The power station manufacturers who are members of the VDMA's large industrial plant manufacturing group have suffered in the difficult market environment in 2017.

Hydro power stations

Compared to the previous two years, where there was a net capacity increase of 31.7 GW (gigawatts) and 33.7 GW, the expectation for 2017 is that growth in the hydro power station market will be significantly lower, at around 20 GW.

Chemical Plant Manufacturing

The intensity of the competition and price pressure in global chemical plant manufacturing have further increased in 2017. This led to consolidation on the supplier side. Engineering capacities were significantly reduced worldwide in some cases, and further consolidation moves will follow during 2018.

Pulp and paper plants

Paper consumption will continue to grow modestly in the coming years. The estimated increase in production for 2017 is 0.9 %, with the strongest growth being anticipated in cardboard and packaging and tissue.

Waste to eneryg plants

Worldwide, there are over 1,200 waste to energy plants operating in over 40 countries, thermally treating non-recyclable waste reliably and to high technical standards.
